# PRIVACY\_POLICY

**Last updated:** \[Date of publication]

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Before you publish this:** This document was drafted to match SOL-E's actual features and data flows, structured to be GDPR-friendly and to support Apple's App Privacy disclosures and Google Play's Data Safety section. It is a starting point, not legal advice — have it reviewed by a qualified lawyer for your specific country of incorporation before it goes live, especially the placeholders in brackets below.
{% endhint %}

## 1. Who we are

SOL-E ("**SOL-E**," "**we**," "**us**," or "**our**") is a mobile application published by **\[Company Legal Name / Your Name, if operating as an individual]**, \[registered in / operating from] **\[Country/Region]**.

This Privacy Policy explains what information SOL-E collects, why we collect it, how we use it, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to the SOL-E mobile app on iOS and Android, and to any website we operate in connection with it.

If you have questions about this policy, see [Section 20 — Contact Us](#20-contact-us).

## 2. Who can use SOL-E

SOL-E is intended for users **13 years of age or older**. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you are in a country where the age of consent for using apps like ours without parental permission is higher than 13 (this varies across EU member states, up to age 16), please get a parent or guardian's permission before creating an account. See [Section 15 — Children's Privacy](#15-childrens-privacy) for more detail.

## 3. Information we collect

We collect the following categories of information:

### 3.1 Account information

When you create a SOL-E account, we collect your **email address** and a **securely hashed password** (or, if you sign in with a third-party provider such as Google, the basic profile information that provider shares with us). We also collect the **username** you choose and any profile details you add.

Account authentication is handled by our backend provider, Supabase — we never store your password in plain text, and we don't have access to it.

### 3.2 Location data

If you use SOL-E's Walk or Map features, we collect your **device's GPS location** while the app is open and in use, in order to:

* Show you nearby in-app rewards on the map,
* Validate that steps/distance were genuinely walked outdoors (rather than simulated), and
* Power location-based features generally.

**We only access your location while the app is in the foreground and in active use.** SOL-E does not request or use background location access, and we do not track your location when the app is closed or minimized. See [Section 6 — Location Tracking](#6-location-tracking) for more.

### 3.3 Motion and step data

SOL-E uses your device's built-in motion sensors (via Apple's Core Motion / Android's step-counting APIs) to count your steps for in-app step-tracking, goals, and rewards. See [Section 7 — Step & Motion Tracking](#7-step--motion-tracking).

### 3.4 In-app activity and progression data

To make the app work, we store the data behind your SOL-E experience: your **Flares balance and history**, **Energy**, **streaks**, **completed missions and achievements**, **virtual pet data**, **arcade game scores and stats**, and **referral activity**. This data is tied to your account so your progress is available whenever and wherever you sign in.

### 3.5 Advertising identifiers

If you choose to watch a rewarded video ad, our advertising partner (Google AdMob) may collect your device's advertising identifier (such as Apple's IDFA, subject to your App Tracking Transparency choice, or Android's Advertising ID) to serve and measure ads. See [Section 8 — Advertising](#8-advertising).

### 3.6 Usage and diagnostic data

We collect basic information about how the app is used and how it performs — for example, which screens are opened, whether a session crashed, and general app-performance signals — so we can find and fix bugs and understand which features are useful. See [Section 9 — Analytics](#9-analytics).

### 3.7 Device information

Like almost all mobile apps, the app and our service providers automatically receive some standard technical information from your device (such as OS version, device model, app version, and IP address), primarily for security, debugging, and to keep the service running correctly.

**We do not collect:** your contacts, photos, camera roll, microphone, or camera. SOL-E does not request access to any of these.

## 4. How we use your information

We use the information above to:

* Create and secure your account, and let you sign in across devices;
* Operate the core features of the app — walking/map, arcade games, your pet, missions, streaks, and rewards;
* Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and exploitative behaviour (for example, making sure rewards are only granted once);
* Show and measure rewarded advertisements, and pay out the in-app rewards you earn from them;
* Understand how the app is used so we can improve it and fix problems;
* Communicate with you about your account or important changes to the service; and
* Comply with our legal obligations.

## 5. Our legal basis for processing (GDPR)

If you're located in the UK or the EEA, we rely on the following legal bases under UK/EU GDPR:

* **Performance of a contract** — processing needed to create your account and provide the app's core features (e.g., account data, progression data).
* **Consent** — for location access, motion/step access, and (where applicable) personalised advertising and tracking; you can withdraw this consent at any time through your device settings or in-app permissions.
* **Legitimate interests** — for basic security, fraud prevention, and product analytics, balanced against your rights and interests.
* **Legal obligation** — where we're required to retain or disclose information by law.

## 6. Location Tracking

* Location access is **optional** and only requested when you first use a location-based feature (the Walk/Map screen).
* Location is used **only while the app is open and in use** — SOL-E does not request "Always" / background location permission on iOS or Android.
* Your location is used to show you nearby in-app rewards and to validate outdoor walking activity; it is not sold, and it is not shared with other users in a way that reveals your precise position to them.
* You can deny or revoke location access at any time in your device's Settings. If you do, location-based features (like nearby rewards on the map) simply won't work — the rest of the app is unaffected.

## 7. Step & Motion Tracking

* SOL-E uses your phone's built-in step counter (Apple Core Motion on iOS, the equivalent sensor APIs on Android) to count steps for daily goals, streaks, and rewards.
* This requires your permission (Motion & Fitness on iOS, Physical Activity on Android), which the app requests the first time step tracking is needed.
* Step data is used to calculate in-app progress and rewards; it is not shared with third parties for advertising purposes.
* You can deny or revoke this permission in your device Settings at any time. If you do, step-based features won't function, but the rest of the app will.

## 8. Advertising

SOL-E offers **optional rewarded video ads** (powered by Google AdMob) that you can choose to watch in exchange for bonus in-app rewards. Ads are never required to use the core app.

* When you watch a rewarded ad, Google AdMob may collect information such as your device's advertising identifier, general device information, and ad-interaction data, in order to select and measure ads and prevent fraud.
* On iOS, whether AdMob can use your advertising identifier for personalised/tracking purposes depends on your response to Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you decline, you'll still be able to watch rewarded ads — they'll simply be less personalised.
* On Android, you can reset or opt out of the use of your Advertising ID for personalised ads in your device's Google Settings.
* We do not control how Google or its advertising partners use data collected through the AdMob SDK beyond what's described in [Google's own Privacy Policy](https://policies.google.com/privacy) and [How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services](https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites).

## 9. Analytics

We record a limited set of first-party usage and diagnostic events (such as app opens, crash reports, and feature usage) to understand how SOL-E performs and where it breaks. This data is used to improve the app and is not used to build advertising profiles about you.

## 10. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with:

* **Supabase** — our backend infrastructure provider, which hosts our database and handles authentication. Supabase processes data on our behalf under its own data processing terms.
* **Google AdMob** — our advertising partner, described in [Section 8](#8-advertising).
* **Service providers** who help us run the app (e.g., cloud hosting), bound by confidentiality and data protection obligations.
* **Legal authorities**, if required to comply with a legal obligation, protect our rights, or investigate fraud or abuse.
* **A successor**, if SOL-E is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets — you'd be notified of any change in ownership or use of your personal information.

We never share your precise location, password, or private account details with other SOL-E users.

## 11. International data transfers

Because we use global service providers (like Supabase and Google), your information may be processed in countries other than the one you live in, including outside the UK/EEA. Where this happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards required by law (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) to protect your information.

*\[Confirm and state here the specific hosting region(s) your Supabase project uses, so this section is accurate — e.g., "Our database is hosted in \[region] via Supabase's infrastructure."]*

## 12. Data retention

We keep your personal information for as long as your account is active, so the app can function properly. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal information as described in [Section 14](#14-account-deletion), except where we're required to retain certain records for a limited time for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes.

## 13. User Accounts

* You're responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for all activity that happens under your account.
* You must provide accurate information when creating your account and keep it up to date.
* Please tell us immediately at [Section 20](#20-contact-us) if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.
* One person, one account — we may take action against accounts used to abuse or exploit the reward system.

## 14. Account Deletion

You can request deletion of your account at any time from within the app: **Profile → Settings → Delete Account**.

When you request deletion:

* Your account is deactivated immediately and you're signed out.
* Your personal information (email, username, profile data) is anonymised or deleted from our active systems.
* Some data may be retained for a limited period afterward where we have a legitimate reason to do so — for example, fraud-prevention records or information we're legally required to keep — but it will no longer be used to provide you the app or linked back to your identity for any other purpose.
* Deletion is generally irreversible — once processed, your progress, rewards balance, and account history cannot be restored.

You can also request account deletion by contacting us directly (see [Section 20](#20-contact-us)) if you're unable to do so in-app.

## 15. Your Rights

If you're located in the UK, EEA, or another jurisdiction with similar data protection laws, you generally have the right to:

* **Access** the personal information we hold about you;
* **Correct** inaccurate or incomplete information;
* **Delete** your personal information (see [Section 14](#14-account-deletion));
* **Restrict** or **object** to certain processing;
* **Port** your data to another service, in a structured, commonly used format, where technically feasible;
* **Withdraw consent** at any time, for processing based on consent (e.g., location, motion tracking, personalised ads) — this won't affect processing that already happened before you withdrew it;
* **Lodge a complaint** with your local data protection authority — in the UK, this is the [Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)](https://ico.org.uk/); in the EEA, it's your national supervisory authority.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in [Section 20](#20-contact-us). We'll respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.

## 16. Children's Privacy

SOL-E is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under that age. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

## 17. Future Blockchain Functionality

SOL-E is currently built around a purely virtual, in-app rewards system (Flares) that has **no monetary value** and cannot be exchanged for cash, cryptocurrency, or any other item of value. See [Section 18](#18-virtual-rewards-disclaimer) for the full disclaimer.

We may, in the future, explore integrating blockchain-based features (for example, on the Solana network). If we do:

* It will be introduced as a distinct, clearly-labelled feature — not silently applied to your existing account or rewards;
* We will update this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service beforehand to describe exactly what data any such feature would involve (for example, a public wallet address, if you choose to connect one) and how it would be used;
* Any such feature would be optional, and nothing in the app today obligates you to participate in it, or represents a promise that it will be built, or a promise of any future value.

We make no guarantees about the timing, existence, or value of any future blockchain integration.

## 18. Virtual Rewards Disclaimer

**Flares, Energy, and every other in-app currency, item, or reward in SOL-E are purely virtual, exist only within the app, and have no real-world or monetary value.** They:

* Cannot be redeemed, exchanged, transferred, or cashed out for real money, cryptocurrency, goods, or services;
* Are not a financial product, security, deposit, or investment of any kind;
* May be adjusted, rebalanced, or removed by us at any time, for any reason (for example, to fix a bug or keep the game fair);
* Have no guaranteed future utility, even if blockchain functionality is introduced later (see [Section 17](#17-future-blockchain-functionality)).

Nothing in SOL-E should be understood as an offer, solicitation, or inducement to invest.

## 19. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information (including relying on Supabase's authentication and database security). However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

## 20. Contact Us

If you have questions, concerns, or requests relating to this Privacy Policy or your personal information, contact us at:

**Email:** \[support/privacy contact email — e.g. <privacy@sole-app.com>]

*(A default of `sol.ecobot@gmail.com` was used elsewhere in this project as a placeholder support address — replace with whichever address you want to be your public-facing privacy/support contact before publishing.)*

If you're in the UK or EEA and aren't satisfied with our response, you have the right to complain to your local data protection authority — the ICO ([ico.org.uk](https://ico.org.uk/)) if you're in the UK.

## 21. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you in-app or by other reasonable means before the changes take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent version.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://sol-e.gitbook.io/sol-e-docs/legal/privacy_policy.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
